On our arrival at the clinic, we were greeted with a full waiting room. Like, no empty chairs full. This was bad sign # 1. Bad sign # 2 came just a few minutes later, when the nurses came into the waiting room with snacks and juice boxes for everyone. A long wait seemed certain at this point, and so we settled in. Thankfully, Mr. Miracle is pretty easy going!
Eventually, it was our turn. Apparently, there is a big difference between 2 year olds and 3 year olds, because Jacob was so brave!
He hopped right up on the table and calmly got his EKG. He even took all the stickers off himself!
Next, we went into the echo room. At our last appointment, this part involved A LOT of crying.
This time he did great and even watched a little! At one point, the echo tech said to me, "we'll give it a shot" while we were making our plan. Jacob immediately said, "I don't want a shot!" It took us a few minutes to explain that she didn't mean he was getting a shot...doesn't miss a thing, that one!
After the echo, we finally got to see Dr. Dummer. She was very pleased with everything she saw. His heart looked very stable. His aortic valve is abnormal, of course, but functioning very well, as is his mitral valve. His left ventricle appears to have minimal scar tissue and excellent function. His aorta is dilated, which I guess it has always been, but the last visit was the first time I really understood that. This time it was very slightly more dilated, but not of concern at this point. The aorta and valve will be the things we will have to fix some day - but not now and hopefully, not soon. So, we go back in 6 months again! In 6 weeks, we will also make a trip to Boston for Jacob to take part in a research study there. At that time, we will also have an appointment with Dr. Tworetzky, Jacob's cardiologist in Boston. I am excited to have him see Jacob and gets his view of how his heart looks and what we can expect.
Yesterday afternoon, I took all 3 kids to gymnastics. As I was watching Jacob climb, jump, tumble and play with the other kids in his class, I got a little teary. There are some moments that just hit me - he is such a miracle. I kept thinking during his whole class, God is good. So good. And we are so blessed.
I'll end with a cute little thing Jacob said to me the other day. He was climbing on my bed and I told him to be careful, I was worried he would fall. He looked at me and said, "don't worry about me, mom, worry about your own self". Good advice, buddy!
